Microsoft’s Convenience Rollup for Windows 7
Microsoft’s
Convenience Rollup
|
From now, whenever you install a fresh copy of Windows 7 you won’t
have to wait for it to download few years updates and multiple reboots. It’ll
have everything it needs up through May 2016.
This update package, which combines updates dating all the
way back to February 2011, isn’t being made available in Windows Update. If
you’re installing a Windows 7 system from scratch, you’ll need to go out of
your way to download and install it. If you don’t, Windows Update will download
and install the updates one by one–the slower, more tedious way.
Step 1:
What you’ll need?
Microsoft’s Convenience Rollup for Windows 7 requires Windows
7 SP1. Install Service Pack 1, If You Don’t Have It Already.
Note: If you are not sure whether you have SP1 or
not. Open the Start menu, type
“winver” into the search box, and press Enter. If it says “Service Pack 1” in
the window, you have Service Pack 1. If it doesn’t, you need to install Service
Pack 1.
You can grab your
Windows 7 ISO from here.
If you installed from an older Windows 7 disc without SP1
integrated, you’ll need to install Service Pack 1 afterwards. Download and
install Service
Pack. (KB976932)
Step 2:
Know your Windows System Type (32 bit or 64 bit)
Click the “Start”
button, right-click “Computer” in
the Start menu, and select “Properties.”
Or just press Windows + Pause Break button. You’ll see this information displayed
to the right of “System type” under
the System header.

Step 3:
Download convenience rollup package
This convenience rollup package, available to download from http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=3125574,
contains all the security and non-security fixes released since the release of
Windows 7 SP1 that are suitable for general distribution, up through April
2016. Install this one update, and then
you only need new updates released after April 2016.
Note: Open the above link in Internet Explorer.
Monthly
Rollup
Microsoft announcing that non-security updates for Windows 7
SP1 and Windows 8.1 will be available as a monthly rollup. Each month, they
are release a single update containing all of the non-security fixes for that
month.
Simplifying
finding and downloading updates
Updates have historically been published on the Microsoft Download Center and
the Microsoft Update Catalog. Security
Bulletins have linked directly to update packages on the Microsoft Download
Center.
